Tony Popovic’s men continued to defy A-League expectations, overcoming the Wellington Phoenix in a 2-1 win with a late goal from Mark Bridge last night.

Andrew Redmayne (GK) – 7: There was little the Western Sydney custodian could do to stop the neat finish from Manny Muscat in the first period. Looked more convincing in distribution and was solid when called upon in the second half.

Scott Jamieson – 7: Had a stunning shot disallowed in the first-half and was positive overlapping on the left-wing. Committed a few careless errors in the second period.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 7.5: Remains comfortable playing out from the back and provided a few trademark headed clearances.

Alberto – 7.5: The Spanish central defender was calm in distribution and has established an apt partnership with Topor-Stanley at the back.

Scott Neville – 6: Worked hard but his final ball was lacking when he pushed up in the front-third.

Andreu – 7.5: The Spaniard performed convincingly once again in midfield, showcasing his skills in distribution.

Dimas – 7: Once again assured in the middle of the park.

Mitch Nichols – 7: Hardworking and looked dangerous from the outset. Tired somewhat towards the conclusion of the match.

Dario Vidosic – 6: Had a quiet night on the right and failed to establish his influence on the match.

Mark Bridge – 8: Provided a selfless assist for the opening goal and secured the three points with a cool finish in the 84th minute.

Federico Piovaccari – 6.5: Lacks the pace to trouble most A-League defences, but worked hard and put away an easy goal in the opening ten minutes.
