Close but no cigar

Brisbane and City boast the most impressive midfielders in the league – Mooy, Corona, Broich and Matt McKay were all on display as both sides cut through each other’s defences with wonderful passing movements. Unfortunately, possession does not necessarily translate into goals. Maclaren, Corey Gameiro and Bruno Fornaroli all spurned a number of chances due to mistakes and poor decision-making. Maclaren and Fornaroli could arguably be blamed for the bluntness in the final third as both were taken off in the second half.

Woeful decision-making plagued the front men. Fornaroli let a shot sail wide while Mooy was free on the wing and Maclaren was left flat-footed in the penalty area more than once. The two strikers will be crucial to the hopes of silverware for both sides and Aloisi and van’t Schip will be disappointed with such a lacklustre display.
