Campbell can do a job for Wenger

Imagine how good Arsenal would be if all of their players were fit at the same time. Imagine a front six of Jack Wilshire, Francis Coquelin, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck. Sadly, such notions are restricted to the night-time reverie of the Arsenal fan.

Instead, with only Ozil of that gilded sextet available they were obliged to watch Mathieu Flamini and Olivier Giroud doing their best to undermine the idea that everything French is intrinsically sophisticated. Still, at least the curse of the Emirates has allowed Campbell to have a run-out.

The game Costa Rica forward did not squander his opportunity here, demonstrating precisely how to finish with a clinical shot low past Costel Pantimilion.

Confidence is integral at this stage of the season

Arsenal’s season is on a knife edge. They have been on a bad run, have looked flat and are definitely jaded.

They have also got injuries, but go through the Arsenal team. Yes, they have injuries. But the starting XI was decent. Very offensive, but decent.

They were sluggish and rather lethargic at times, had quite a few things missing but the biggest was confidence.

Arsenal must have looked at West Brom, Norwich, Sunderland and Aston Villa and thought they were four games they should win to strengthen their title hopes.

It has been a struggle and they were hardly convincing against Sunderland. But the lift that Giroud’s goal gave them was huge. Get some belief back and Arsenal can yet have a decent title push.
