A fitting top of the table clash

First hosted second in this highly anticipated game. After a couple of weeks of off-field issues dominating the thoughts of the football community, the resolution midweek meant focus could be returned back to the football and in particular, the pick of the games this week – Western Sydney versus Melbourne Victory.

The game was everything a top of the table match should be – an entertaining and tight contest with end-to-end chances, both sets of players fired up and ready to go. There is no doubt these sides should be considered title favourites with their remaining two games in the regular season – as well as any finals fixtures sure to be just as exciting.

Fahid Ben Khalfallah’s faltering start

Last year saw Fahid Ben Khalfallah warrant his own hashtag on social media with Victory fans desperate to see more of the Tunisian, calling on the club to ‘pen the ben’ in order to keep him in the team beyond 2014-15. Signing a two year contract extension, it was widely expected that the form which saw Khalfallah dominate the latter stages of last season and win the Victory medal would be replicated this time around, but that has not been the case.

Khalfallah has barely showed glimpses of the form which made fans so desperate to re-sign him. While his lacklustre efforts have been masked by the brilliant performances of Gui Finkler, Besart Berisha and Kosta Barbarouses, the key playmaker Khalfallah needs to find form soon.
