Villarreal look to be entering the race for La Liga glory
The football community spoke of a three-horse race to the 2015-16 La Liga title. The usual contenders of Barcelona and Real Madrid remained strong favourites, however after the successful summer signings, Atléti entered many people’s views of providing a threat to the duopoly of La Liga. But after six weeks of competition, it is the impressive Villarreal who remain first.
The season is still in its infancy, however, Villarreal, who are still unbeaten, have played impressive football. With impressive displays in all areas of the pitch, Marcelino has built a strong competitive, side that looked impressive against favourites Atléti. Involvement in the demanding and long Europa League competition may hinder the long term success of Marcelino’s side this season, but if they are able to replicate the performance produced against Atléti, they would have a good chance of fighting for more than just a Champions League spot.
