Janmatt was fantastic

When you are in a crisis, individuals need to stand up and guide the rest of the dressing room to where the grass is greener. There are not many doing that for Newcastle, however, Daryl Janmatt was certainly one of them. The Dutchman showed plenty of determination and a heck of a lot of running.

In total, Janmatt was involved in 10 challenges and won over 90% of his tackles, while in possession he added plenty of support and was only dispossessed once. Other than Wijnaldum, Janmatt was Newcastle’s best player hands down.

The Reds should have had a goal

Although Liverpool’s performance was not deserving of any points, they were wrongly disallowed a goal in the second stanza. Alberto Moreno cushioned a long ball from the depths of midfield into the far post only for it to be chalked out, however, the Spaniard was clearly onside.

At the time Newcastle were a goal ahead and there was another 20 minutes on the clock including stoppage-time, so it was quite a controversial decision, despite Wijnaldum’s late goal.
