Fernando Torres has described his re-signing at Atletico Madrid as a “dream come true”.
After his contract expired in the summer, Torres was a free agent but re-signed to extend his second stay at the Vicente Calderon for another year.
Torres said the option to remain at his boyhood club was the best possible result.
“I am very happy to be part of and belong to Atleti again, and I’m glad to be back home,” Torres said.
“This is the only place I ever wanted to be and in the end my dream has come true.
“I never doubted where I wanted to be, and what matters is that I have got what I was hoping for.”

Torres scored 12 goals from 44 appearances for Atletico in 2015-16, and joins strike partner Antoine Griezmann who signed a until the end of season 2020-2021 last week.
Torres currently sits in eighth place on the club’s all-time goalscoring list with 109 goals and is determined to add to his standing as one of the club’s most prolific strikers.
“Personally, I hope to have a great year, score lots of goals and continue to rise up the all-time scorers table,” Torres said.
“Surpassing Adelardo, perhaps Peiro: keep getting closer to the best scorers in the history of the club and make it another year to remember.
“It’s a beautiful day, very special.”
