5 – Season 2013-14 – Melbourne Victory defeat Sydney FC 2-1 at Etihad Stadium

A Big Blue to remember as the Victory came away victorious thanks to a late goal from Gui Finkler.

Kicking off the finals series in April 2014, things got off to an impressive start with this tense elimination match. Archie Thompson opened the scoring in the 19th minute coming down the left-flank, latching onto a James Troisi through ball. Later, an old Victory foe in the form of Seb Ryall equalised 15 minutes later by hanging around in the box. Alesandro Del Piero was denied by the post late in the first half and the sides went into the break level.

Sydney FC started the second half much stronger, however they could not convert their chances into goals thanks to some impressive keeping by Nathan Coe. As injury time began, it appeared extra time was coming before Gui Finkler drifted into the box and tapped home to seal their progression. The Victory were eliminated a week later by the eventual champions Brisbane.
