One thousand and twenty-four goals were scored in Serie A this term (the highest out of Europe’s top five leagues), and with the curtain coming down on the 2014-15 season, it is time to take a look at some of the best strikes in Italy’s top flight throughout the course of the campaign.

10. Stephan El Shaarawy – Sampdoria vs AC MILAN

To get it started is this beautiful curled effort from Stephan El Shaarawy. Upon his return to the first team following a long spell on the sidelines due to injury, the fleet-footed winger dribbled his way from the halfway line to the edge of the box and unleashed this strike. It was El Shaarawy’s first goal in six months and you can see what it meant to him.

9. Giacomo Bonaventura – Cagliari vs AC MILAN

Another wonderful effort from a Rossonero. New arrival Bonaventura received the ball from a throw-in very far out, all seeming safe for Cagliari. Or so it thought – the former Atalanta man shaped as if he was about to cross, however the ball sailed over the head of Alessio Cragno in goal for the Sardinians and the game was levelled at 1-1. It is difficult to tell whether Bonaventura meant it, though.

8. Roberto Pereyra – Hellas Verona vs JUVENTUS

A perfectly curled strike reminiscent of a finessed wonder-goal on FIFA. Pereyra made it 2-0 to Juventus with this beauty on the final matchday of the season as he wrapped the inside of his foot around the ball on the edge of the box, causing it to curve into the top corner.

7. Giovanni Marchese – Udinese vs GENOA

From a quickly taken corner, the ball was dished off to Marchese who hit a half-volley across his body, sending the ball over the head of Orestis Karnezis in goal for Udinese.

6. German Denis – ATALANTA vs Sassuolo

The best of the three overhead goals that Atalanta scored in Serie A in 2014-15. Even the build up play was good – the ball was back-heeled and headed on to Denis, who sent it into the back of the net in acrobatic fashion. It was very difficult to put this goal as low as number six.

5. Franco Vazquez – Atalanta vs PALERMO

Words do not do this one justice. Palermo ace Vazquez ran into open space inside Atalanta’s half before almost being dispossessed of the ball. What happens after is astonishing – he nonchalantly lobbed the ball well outside the box over La Dea goalkeeper Marco Sportiello, who was not too far off his line to begin with.

4. Mateo Kovacic – INTER vs Lazio

A corner was put into the box and cleared, sitting up perfectly for the Croatian wonderkid. The technique and timing of the strike was flawless as Kovacic volleyed the ball past Biancocelesti goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

3. Saphir Taider – Parma vs SASSUOLO

Taider received the ball well outside the box from a headed clearance and the Algerian, under immense pressure after a loose first touch, hit a left-foot rocket into the top corner, leaving Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante without a hope of saving it.

2. Mattia Destro – ROMA vs Hellas Verona

The Giallorossi striker received the ball near the centre circle from a goal kick and there appeared to be no immediate danger. Destro, however, had the presence of mind to know how far the Verona goalkeeper was off his line, and hit a half-volley that dipped over Pierluigi Gollini in the Hellas goal.

1. Bruno Peres – Juventus vs TORINO

Torino wing-back Peres received the ball inside his own box. What happened after is impressive as he went on a mesmerising solo run down the touch-line and into Juve’s half. He then entered the Bianconeri’s own box and blasted a right-footed shot in off the post, making it 1-1 in the Derby della Mole.
