Three key talking points – Melbourne City vs Perth Glory

Melbourne City and Perth Glory will compete for a valuable three points at AAMI park tonight. These are the big talking points ahead of the match.

Melbourne City’s inconsistent form

Last weekend’s draw with Brisbane was yet another example of City’s unpredictable form. After a dismal outing against Western Sydney the side bounced back, forcing the Roar to drop their first points at home this season with a much deserved draw. But as City’s record this season stands at three loses, two wins and two draws (no result coming consecutively), the question is: what City side will run out on Friday night? With young talent and experience making up the starting XI and bench, excuses for City’s underwhelming and inconsistent form are running thin, putting a lot of pressure on this weekend’s result.

Can Perth continue their record against City?

It has been a tough start to the season for Perth who have struggled to recover from the highs and lows of last season, with just four points from a possible 21. But heading to AAMI Park, the Glory boast a decent record in recent history, remaining undefeated in their last three meetings and hold the upper hand in overall head-to-head stats. Although pressure is not outwardly mounting on Kenny Lowe, the side will be desperate to keep within reach of the top six teams, and a loss this weekend would see them seven points adrift.

Will Bruno Fornaroli end his ‘goal drought’?

Despite sitting joint top goalscorer alongside Besart Berisha, City’s Uruguayan striker has been relatively quiet of late, a major factor in Melbourne’s inability to pick up wins in their last two outings. In fact his ‘goal drought’ extends not only to finding himself on the scoresheet but also setting up others, with his last impact on goal corresponding with City’s most recent league win. While realistically two games without scoring is no need to be hitting the panic button, City are in urgent need of form and it is hard to argue the talented import is not key to finding it.
