Three key talking points – Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar

Melbourne City head back to AAMI Park high off their win over Adelaide, but standing in their way of another three points is a Brisbane side that sits top after the league’s best performance last round.

Fornaroli vs MacLaren for Golden Boot

Bruno Fornaroli looked to have locked up the Golden Boot award with a hat-trick against Sydney FC, taking his goal tally to an A-League record 20 for the season. However, Brisbane’s Jamie Maclaren responded to the Uruguayan’s performance with a stunning outing himself – taking his total to 17 for the season. As they go head-to-head this Friday, both will be out to prove they deserve the honour and for those inside AAMI Park, hopefully Fornaroli and Maclaren will be spurred on by each other, and put on a spectatcular goalscoring display and send the race for the Golden Boot into overdrive.

Four key clashes as Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar lock horns

Brisbane’s incredible win over Melbourne Victory

After a gutsy three points against Western Sydney, Brisbane proved it was not a fluke with a crushing 5-0 win over Melbourne Victory. Maclaren was out in force against the reigning champions, but it was the Roar’s well-rounded approach that truly impressed. Instead of being brought down by Victory’s lack of tempo, John Aloisi’s men showed discipline to keep their shape and style with a relentlessly attacking 90 minutes. The Queenslanders will need to reproduce that wholesome approach this weekend when they take on an equally buoyant City side, fresh off the back of an equally impressive win over Adelaide United.

The Roar’s struggles away to City

Head-to-head, this fixture has just four goals separating the two sides, with Brisbane netting 26 times to City’s 22 in their 17 encounters (seven wins each and three draws). However at AAMI Park, it is a much different story, with the visitors bagging a mere six goals, exactly half of their hosts, and managing just the four points from a possible 21. Additionally, John Aloisi’s men have lost three of their last four away games – the only win coming against out of form Sydney – and conceding 13 goals in the process.
