In the first game back from the international break Napoli showed they had not lost any of the form that has them sitting among the Serie A front-runners.

This win now takes them to 12 games undefeated in the league and second on the table. The Azzurri gave Verona effectively no chance in this match, controlling possession, although this did not show on the scoreboard until after the hour-mark.

Unsurprisingly it was Napoli’s main men, Lorenzo Insigne and Gonzalo Higuain that were key to putting the ball past Verona. Insigne again showed why he is rated as the best at Napoli, with his important input into both goals.

Higuain is fit

After being under an injury cloud throughout the internationals while on duty with Argentina, Higuain quashed any speculation surrounding his fitness, playing the whole 90 minutes for the Neapolitans and netting a quality crossed pass from Lorenzo Insigne to put the game out of reach for Verona.

He again has continued his goal scoring form, recording a 10th goal from a total of 13 games, which now takes him to the top of the scoring charts, as well as in line with some of the best from around the world’s top leagues.

Napoli Injuries did not affect them

After the worries posed during the break, with Dries Mertens and Manolo Gabbiadini being injured, Higuain having his issues and some scares, although unwarranted, about Marek Hamsik, Napoli performed like the normal well-oiled machine they are. To be fair, the injuries did not affect their starting lineup, other than a suspension for Kalidou Koulibaly.

With Mertens out the substitutes have changed and opportunities are opened for others to get gametime. Against Verona, Maurizio Sarri used David Lopez, Christian Maggio and Omar El Kaddouri.
