Roma’s visit to the San Paolo was assumed to be one that was going to bring more grief to the team, however a resilient performance saw them hold Napoli scoreless and take a point away.
A top-class showing from on loan Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny allowed Roma to leave the San Paolo with a much needed point. In a game that Napoli dominated with 60% possession as well as 12 shots to five, the home team could not seal the deal.
The draw does not help either team’s quest for the title with Inter now four points clear of Napoli as well as Juventus picking up another win which now takes them above Roma into the Serie A top four.
Napoli
Pepe Reina – 7: Did not have much work to do but kept a clean sheet.
Elseid Hysaj – 6.5: As always, happy to go forward and gave plenty of supply from out wide. Did not have much success with his crossing, however.
Kalidou Koulibaly – 7: One of his better performances and controlled the Napoli back line well.
Raul Albiol – 6: Played a part in the clean sheet but was not overly prominent.
Fazi Ghoulam – 6.5: Similar to Hysaj, he was good going forward and did not have a lot of work at the back to do.
Allan – 6: Seems to be the same story. Did not stand out but did his job.
Jorginho – 5.5: As always, controlled the team passing but midfield was very condensed and he did not create anything of note.
Marek Hamsik – 6.5: Also a decent game, had a couple of chances with no success.
Lorenzo Insigne – 6: Not his best game. Took a few shots but all were wide.
Jose Callejon – 5: Did very little considering Napoli’s attacking dominance.
Gonzalo Higuain – 4: Gave the ball away a fair bit and did not actually have a shot all game. A lack of quality service did not assist him.
Substitutes
Dries Mertens – 5.5: Brought some life to the team with a couple of chances but could not break the deadlock.
Omar El Kaddouri – N/A: Came on very late. Had one chance to slot the winner but otherwise had no time.
