Soon after announcing the signing of Socceroo Rhys Williams, Perth Glory has added another to don the green and gold, adding midfielder Chris Herd for the forthcoming 2016-17 A-League campaign.

Twenty-seven-year-old Herd returns to Australia after a spell in England with Aston Villa, Chesterfield and various clubs on loan, never really settling in at any of those clubs.

But the West Australian says he believes a move back to his home city is the right move for him and those close to him as he looks to find a solid footing at club level.

“I’m thrilled to be coming home and re-joining some former teammates of old and working with Kenny Lowe,” Herd said.

“Pulling on the purple for Perth Glory has been something I’ve contemplated for a while and I’m keen and excited to be part of a club that is definitely on the way up.

“This is the right move for me, my football and my family.”

A delighted Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos says Herd’s signing is one that is another step in his club’s achievement of its recently released strategic plan.

“What you’re seeing is a gradual realisation of our Strategic Plan: The Perth Glory Way,” Peter Filopoulos said.

“It’s part of our ongoing re-build and commitment to be the best club on and off the field in Australia.

“This is just another small building block to the plan.”

Herd is another of Glory’s high-profile signings since being eliminated from the A-League finals by Melbourne City, with Williams also penning a one-year deal.

Former star Adam Taggart is also set to link up with the club, though his signing has been official for some time.
