Outside90’s Joshua Scarcella casts an eye over the five best individual performances to come from the weekend’s Serie A action.

Lucas Digne (Carpi vs Roma)

The young left-back has been a rare good story for the Romans this season, a brilliant transfer by the club in a position that was very much vacant.

It is notably his ability to get forward and create attacking play that has been the most valuable to the Giallorossi, even though his defensive qualities are just as impressive.

He would sit at the top of the highlight reel after this match, with a sensational goal taken from the best part of 30 metres from the net.

Daniele Gastaldello (Udinese vs Bologna)

The 32-year-old has lead by example during 2016 with three man of the match performances and two assists which have captured important points.

His team has only conceded six goals during 2016, a grand feat considering their opponents have included Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina. Much of this can be reflected back onto Gastaldello’s performances and organisation.

Udinese only managed two shots on target during the weekend’s match, one coming off a corner due to the Italian’s commanding play, cutting out a number of attacking opportunities for the home side before they amounted into anything more dangerous.

Mohammed Salah (Carpi vs Roma)

Injury, poor form and team structure have been the story of the Egyptian’s season, beginning as a much more promising one than what has been delivered.

Despite this, the 23-year-old has shown glimpses of why he is so popular among the Italian football fans and the match against Carpi was one of these occasions.

He was involved in all three goals scored by the away side, ranging from a small role in the build-up to being rewarded with a goal of his own. The pick of the bunch was his assist for Edin Dzeko, showing just how quick his feet are.

Danilo Cataldi (Lazio vs Verona)

As discussed in our weekly Serie A review, the Lazio midfield has been a difficult work area for any of the three regulars. To Cataldi’s credit though, the 21-year-old has pieced together some consistent performances, when his team were anything but.

The match against Verona gave Cataldi the opportunity to show exactly what he is capable of and the two assists did just that, bamboozling the defense on both occasions with a through ball and a cutback from an awkwardly bouncing pass.

Ciro Immobile (Palermo vs Torino)

It seems that Immobile’s comeback to Torino has been a positive one for both the player and the club, scoring his second and third goals in just over a month since returning.

Not only this, but some assists along the way have been a shining light on what has been a disappointing month for the Granata, only managing one win in six matches.

A dominating performance left Giancarlo Gonzalez and Edoardo Goldangia clueless in stopping Immobile, displaying not only classic centre forward positioning, but also that of a No.10.
