Melbourne Victory keeper Nathan Coe will miss his side’s crucial double-header trip to Brisbane after failing to overcome the back injury which kept him out against the Newcastle Jets last Friday.

Coe suffered the injury a fortnight ago against Wellington and was replaced against the Jets by reserve goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas.

The Victory plays twice in four days against Brisbane Roar after the teams’ previous encounter was washed out due to the effects of Cyclone Marcia in the Northern state in February.

Melbourne will play the Roar twice in four days which will be crucial in the club’s quest for the Premiers Plate, with the Roar playing with renewed confidence after being admitted into the top six by default after Perth were disqualified from finals as a result of its salary cap breaches.

The loss of Coe for both matches means Thomas, an inexperienced keeper, will be forced to pull on the gloves in two matches that could be crucial to where the Victory finish on the table, given their loss to the Jets last week.

Two wins in Brisbane will go a long way to the Victory tightening their grasp on the Premiers Plate and Asian Champions League qualification.
