Manchester United players asked to help club save money

Manchester United stars Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahomivic have been told they must not swap give matchday kits away in order to save money.

It was reported that an Old Trafford insider said: “They are asked not to swap shirts so they don’t have to be replaced, it seems daft given how much the club is worth.”

Ibrahimovic, Pogba and Rooney are key targets to swap shirts with opposition players, given their stature in the game and on-sell value of such items. The rule change also applies to players handing worn kits to fans following matches.

The news follows reports from last season, when Cambridge United instructed their players not to swap shirts with United’s stars being paired together in the FA Cup.

In 2014, United singed a record £750m kit deal with Adidas, which could be a contributing factor.

United currently sit third in the Premier League standings, trailing Manchester City and Chelsea by goal difference, with the Manchester Derby set to take place this Saturday at Old Trafford.
