Pep Guardiola is the new man to take over at Manchester City after signing a three-year deal which will commence in the summer.

In a rather curious and gargantuan turn of events, outgoing manager Manuel Pellegrini had just completed a regular press conference in relation to City’s progress in the transfer window when he mentioned almost in passing that he would not have his contract renewed at the end of the season.

Within moments of the development, a press release was issued by Manchester City Football Club confirming the capture of Guardiola, and that Pellegrini was “fully supportive” of the appointment.

The press release confirmed the signing was the result of a ongoing negotiations which commenced in 2012.

The former Barcelona player and manager had previously confirmed his intention to leave Bayern Munich and pursue opportunities in the Premier League.

There had been speculation that Guardiola would take over from Louis van Gaal or Arsene Wenger, however it is Guardiola’s connection with Txiki Begiristain, former Barcelona and now City’s director of football, which was decisive in getting the deal done.

The most successful exponent of the implementation ‘tiki-taka’ football – a Spanish footballing revolution – will be transplanted to the English game, which is already reluctantly undergoing a transformation, albeit at a much slower pace.

The arrival of Barcelona’s most successful manager will be one of the major talking points ahead of season 2016-17.
