Analysing Liverpool’s best passers versus West Brom

Liverpool left it late to get a share of the spoils versus West Brom at the weekend, however there was plenty of excellent passing throughout the match.

Just who was the Reds’ most dominate midfielder? Or was it another position that provided the goods?

5 – Nathaniel Clyne

The Reds right-full-back has been one of Liverpool’s more consistent players this season, even under the management of Brendan Rodgers at the beginning of the campaign. Against West Brom, the Englishman made a total of 63 passes and recorded a pass accuracy of 90%, which was the highest of both teams excluding Divock Origi’s 100%, as the Belgian made just eight passes.

4 – James Milner

The vice-captain almost always tops the running charts for Liverpool and his work-rate in possession can not go unnoticed. The former Manchester City utility made a total of 65 passes and recorded a success rate of 72% which is the lowest on this list but one of the highest compared the Baggies’ starting team.

3 – Martin Skrtel

The Slovakian has a very important role in the Liverpool back four under Jurgen Klopp. First and foremost, Skrtel is in charge of stopping the goals, that much is obvious. However, his other duty is to start the Reds’ build-up and he certainly had his passing boots working over the weekend.

In total, the towering centre-back recorded a pass accuracy of 85% from 72 passes, which was the third-best ratio in the Liverpool squad.

2 – Jordan Henderson

How Liverpool fans have missed their captain. Henderson produced a quality performance on Saturday that consisted of 83 passes and an accuracy of 77%. What was most impressive, however, was the fact that 83% of the Englishman’s passes were forward to the feet of Christian Benteke and Philippe Coutinho.

There were very few Reds that came close to toppling those numbers at Anfield.

1 – Emre Can

The German has been a revelation and a breath of fresh air since Klopp took over at Anfield. His performances have offered an aggression in defence and some delightful touches going forward. Can made 90 passes over the weekend, which was the the highest from both sides, as was his 86% success rate given the amount he attempted.

The sky appears to be the limit for Can under the leadership of Klopp.

The Reds will be looking to return to the winner’s circle after their loss to Newcastle United and their draw on the weekend when they face Watford on Sunday night. Liverpool are five points adrift of Manchester United who hold the last Champions League spot and a further six behind the high flying Leicester City.
