Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Liverpool fans should not sing his name until his team’s result is decided.

The Anfield faithful were in fine voice for their first home game in front of the newly upgraded main stand, inspiring ‘the Reds’ to a stunning 4-1 victory over champions Leicester City.

However, the manager briefly interrupted his praise post-game conference to express his opinion to the fans, explaining how he believes their positive intentions should be directed elsewhere.

“Please don’t sing my name before the game is decided,” Klopp told reporters.

“When the Kop started singing it, [Leicester] were alone in front of Simon Mignolet.”

“I don’t play. It was the same at Arsenal. It is nice but not necessary. I am really on the side of the players. I am responsible for our bad performances, they are responsible for the good performances.”

“That is an easy deal. That is what I expect from us, what we did today.”

The German was impressed with his side’s clinical display, comparing it to their opening day victory against Arsenal.

“We knew we had to do the job today and that is what we did.”

“We were strong physically, flexible, quick, creative. We scored wonderful goals and conceded a not-too-wonderful goal and had a few minutes where you saw what can happen in a football game.

“At half-time, I told the boys, ‘This is our challenge’. When we are good, we are really good but when we had some problems, it is not easy.

“This is the challenge for the whole season. We had a minimum 30 to 35 minutes at Arsenal which I didn’t see until then from us in the movements, which were so strong and clear.”

Klopp’s men will look to build on their weekend victory as they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
