Melbourne City is off to Adelaide to take on the Reds Friday night after a stirring 2-0 win over Perth Glory in their Elimination Final on Sunday evening.

After losing their final two league outings, the Melburnians looked in full control the whole game and coach John van’t Schip was content with the result.

“It feels good, leading up to the game knowing we had two losses, so mentally we had a hit after those two weeks,” Van’t Schip said.

“Looking at this evening, the boys really bounced back and showed they wanted it this evening and we were aggressive on the front foot, pressing them and in the end I think it was a deserved win for us.”

Star striker Bruno Fornaroli was once again central to the triumph with two amazing goals, the first of which was a blistering overhead bicycle kick to open the scoring on the brink of halftime.

‘El Tuna’ then put the game beyond all doubt in the second-half, with a sizzling free-kick 15 minutes from the final whistle.

The City boss said he was proud of the Uruguayan after continuing his consistent form.

“He has that in his game, he’s a real South American quality,” he said.

“Bruno is also a player that can come in, give that extra for himself and the team. They were two great goals.

“He’s important for the team, every striker is important and Bruno is always there. He’s an outlet, he’s fighting, and he’s making it difficult for every opponent.

“On top of that of course he has the quality to score goals and threaten the opponent, he did that tonight again. Bruno of course is in his role is important to score two great goals.”

City have defeated United twice this season in Adelaide, however, ironically lost the most important game out of three last week in the final round.

Despite that, the Dutchman was taking confidence in their past successes down South.

“We’ve shown it twice this year, so it’s not that we don’t know how to beat them. Every game is different,” he said.

“They had a week break so they can prepare the game, that’s in their advantage and they’re playing at home.

“For us I think it’s important we won this game, the confidence, the vibe to keep that going in a final game.

“We know they have quality players as we do, they have fast paced attacking team. We have to be prepared.”
