Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi rubbished claims the missing key players Brandon Borrello and Jamie MacLaren played a part in Roar’s 4-0 drubbing to Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Roar missed out on strikers to Brandon Borrello due to Olyroos duty, however on the contrary Melbourne Victory were missing a number of key players for the same reason including Jason Geria, Scott Galloway and Connor Pain.

Aloisi acknowledged Victory’s key absentees and was adamant it did not have a defining impact on Roars downfall.

“Everyone would love to have a good squad and we haven’t and there’s no excuses,” Aloisi said.

“I wouldn’t look at that to say that’s the reason why we lost 4-0. The players out there are good enough to get results we feel against anyone if we played our best.

“Melbourne had players out, they got on with it, so we have to keep on improving on who we have got out there, because I believe in all of our players.”

With the 4-0 shellacking being unfamiliar to Aloisi’s men, the Roar boss said his team will pick themselves up from a deflating loss and come back stronger against an inform Adelaide United next round.

“You want to make sure it doesn’t happen again and by doing that you learn from your mistakes, we’ll keep on working on it,” he said.

“I’ve said all along we’re improving all the time, we’ll show the players we have to be switched on when we have good control of the ball.

“Majority of the time tonight we did have control of the ball, which can be dangerous because if you lose it, especially with a front four they’ve got, if they win it, they’re direct and they go, so we have to learn from it.”

Despite a convincing scoreline Alosi still maintained a sense of pride with his boys and had full confidence both Roar and Victory will be at the right end of the table come the end of the season.

“I never thought they weren’t playing that well, I actually thought we were unlucky on a number of occasions,” he said.

“I know Melbourne Victory well, I now their players well and know their coach well. I know they’re going to be there or there about by the end of the season with the players they’ve got, but we believe we can still be there, whether we play them in form doesn’t matter.”
