Jose Mourinho’s side had little chance of victory against Manchester City over the weekend, according to former Liverpool hero Jamie Redknapp.
United were beaten 2-1 on Saturday night by a hard working Sky Blues setup, with the ‘Special One’ claiming after the game that he had not selected the right players for the situation.
However, ex-midfielder Redknapp believes that no matter who the personnel, the derby result was always going one way.
“Jose [Mourinho] said it was a mistake picking Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan,” Redknapp said in a column for the Daily Mail.
“In truth, it would have made little difference whoever played — at times City were on a different planet to Manchester United.
“You could see it in Pep Guardiola’s face — he gets as much joy from the performance as the result.
“You feel like you’re getting a coaching clinic every time you watch City now and they are the team to beat this season.”
