Adelaide United claimed top spot on the A-League ladder with a 4-0 thumping of Wellington earlier this afternoon.
After the early stages were fought in the midfield, the Reds broke though just before the 30-minute mark when Jordan Elsey headed a corner back across the face of goal for Dylan McGowan to hit into the bottom-corner.
The lead was doubled before halftime after a wonderful counter down the right-wing saw Marcelo Carrusca put Stefan Mauk through for a cool finish under Glen Moss, yet the midfielder would receive a bizarre yellow card moments later.
Wellington would struggle to find solid possession throughout the game and things were put beyond doubt when Bruce Dijte struck home to make it 3-0 after the break.
Although the hosts were spared some blushes with a disallowed goal coming from Mauk, their best chance of the game would come when a long-range free-kick nearly caught Eugene Galekovic off-guard, but was denied by the post. Pablo Sanchez made it 4-0 in the closing minutes to cap-off a 15th straight undefeated showing for Adelaide.
