England snatched a 1-0 win right at the death away to Slovakia in Sam Allardyce’s first match as England boss.
The match-winner was Liverpool attacker Adam Lallana whose perseverance and scuffed shot squirmed past the goalkeeper.
It sent England’s travelling contingent into raptures, however it was a former Reds defender who stole the headlines for his unceremonious challenge on Harry Kane.
The Fenerbahce centre-back inextricably stomped on Kane’s ankle and was rightfully given his marching orders, with the referee in full view of the incident.
It sparked a barrage of abuse on social media, and here are the best reactions to the sickening challenge:

Liverpool should build a statue of Jurgen Klopp just for selling Martin Skrtel. Awful defender.

Martin Skrtel alone is evidence that #lfc had a much better transfer window than some think.

Martin Skrtel gets a richly-deserved red card for another foul on Harry Kane. Shakes the referee’s hand as he goes off. Ridiculous display.

Martin Skrtel is as brainless a centre-back as they come.

Martin Skrtel the 8 year Liverpool fraud

Martin Skrtel looks like a criminal and plays like a criminal.

Martin Skrtel is genuinely a disaster. Looks like a bad guy on an NCPCC advert but with less footbal ability than your typical abusive uncle

I honestly can’t believe a club has paid actual, physical, real-life money for Martin Skrtel. #LFC are truly blessed.
