On the half-hour mark the away side took the lead through Yevhen Konoplyanka only for a goalmouth scramble to result in Wilfried Bony’s shot taking a deflection off defender Adil Rami and squirming into the back of the net six minutes later.
In the second half both teams looked content to sit back and settle for a point, in the first minute of injury time City snatched a fortuitous win.
Yaya Toure played a wide ball out to De Bruyne, who dribbled into the box and curled in a wonderful left-footed shot to enhance City’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
