La Roja booked a spot among the Copa America’s last four after blowing Mexico away in a 7-0 win at Levi’s Stadium earlier today.
A ruthless Chilean outfit displayed both top-class football and their intentions to take out the continent’s biggest prize – spearheaded by a four-goal effort from Eduardo Vargas.
Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Edson Puch and never really had to look back from there, with the Hoffenheim striker Vargas and Alexis Sanchez netting quickly on either side of halftime to put the result largely beyond doubt.
The pain for El Tri was far from over though, with Vargas completing his hat-trick before the hour-mark thanks to some brilliant play by Sanchez down the left. It was obvious that the Mexico players were hanging their heads, leaving the door open for a fourth from the 26-year-old, while Puch made it 7-0 in the 87th.
Chile will now meet Colombia in the second semi-final.
