Chelsea fell closer to collapse at the expense of Jurgen Klopp’s first Premier League victory after Liverpool left Stamford Bridge with a 3-1 victory earlier tonight.
The showcase fixture did not disappoint, with clear tension in the air and both sides needing to make a statement. Jose Mourinho’s men were showing positive signs on the field and took the lead within the first 10 minutes after a Cesar Azpilicueta cross was met with an unstoppable header from Ramires. Although looking composed for the early stages, Chelsea crawled into their defensive shells too early and the confidence in the reinvigorated Reds outfit saw Phillipe Coutinho equalise in the latest possible seconds of first-half injury time with a great long-range strike.
This would completely turn the momentum after the restart as the reigning champions quickly lost fuel and any ability to make an attacking impact. A second for Coutinho in the 74th minute was a deserved breakthrough, while a powerful strike from substitute Christian Benteke embarrased the reining champions on their once-feared home turf.
