Survival was given a glimmer of hope on Tuesday night, as Aston Villa secured only their second win of the season.
Aston Villa showed intent and real purpose but their lack of quality saw them register just one shot on target in a goalless first half.

Aston Villa were rewarded for their endeavours on 58 minutes after Joleon Lescott’s header was fortuitously and woefully bundled over the line by Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
Surprisingly the visitors, who have been exceptional on their travels, offered very little in response and registered a measly one shot on target for the entire match.
The Villans hadn’t won a league match since the opening day of the season but the fans certainly savoured this one.
