Liverpool escaped North London with an opening weekend win, edging out Arsenal in a seven-goal battle earlier tonight.
There was drama from the outset of the match, with Alberto Moreno’s poor tackle on Theo Walcott giving away a penalty on the half-hour mark and although Simon Mignolet heroically saved his spot-kick, the Arsenal attacker would redeem himself with a low curler that opened the scoring minutes later.
The visitors would reply with conviction, however, with Philippe Coutinho’s devastating free-kick equalising on the stroke of halftime, before a second for the Brazilian, plus goals from Adam Lallana and new signing Sadio Mane seemed to put the result far beyond doubt.
That was only until the introduction of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who pulled one back for the Gunners soon after the hour. Calum Chambers ensured a nail-biting finish at the Emirates with a 75th minute header, but the Reds did just enough to hold the lead and claim the three points.
Here are some of the best reactions to come from Twitter after the game:
Put 4 amazing goals past Arsenal away. Defending still an issue but I’m taking the positives, teams are getting wiped out this season #LFC

Mane is strong as hell. Held off two defenders in the corner. Glad he’s ours. #LFC

Best part for me: Start of 2nd half, Coutinho playing central & dictating the play. He controlled the whole game – need to see more of. #lfc

People laugh when we paid €30M for Sadio Mane. Klopp knows what he’s doing. Coutinho MOTM imo. Well deserved 3 points!! #ARSLIV #LFC

One thing I love about being an Arsenal fan is that I am now pretty much immune to sport pain. #ARSLIV
