An indifferent Arsenal stole three points right at the death against a plucky Southampton thanks to a 94th minute Santi Cazorla penalty.
Southampton took the lead when Dusan Tadic’s fine free-kick effort struck the bar and bounced in off the back of a helpless Petr Cech to hand the visitors the lead on 18 minutes.
Arsenal were level just before the half-hour mark when Laurent Koscielny scored with a wonderful bicycle from a resulting corner.
In a second half where both teams cancelled each other out, it was the Gunners who were rewarded a spot kick after Jose Fonte was adjudged to have fouled Olivier Giroud that Cazorla finished with aplomb.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:
Thought Mustaphi was decent today .. He’s on Koscielny levels .. Great hard earned 3 points .. My man of match was KOS 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 #Arsenal

All of those #Arsenal supporters singing #WengerOut must have been disappointed when Cazorla scored that pen. But don’t worry, PSG next…

Dodgy penalty, unconvincing performance, lucky win.
As for our new striker…if he’s the answer, someone asked the wrong question. #afc— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) September 10, 2016
The more I see #Koscielny, the more I’m convinced that he is the best CB in world football. #AintNobodyLikeKoscielny #afc

Nothing like a scrappy win. Up and running now, come on #AFC.
Mighty promising to see Xhaka, Alexis and Giroud on the bench. #SquadDepth— Gautam Swaminathan (@SwamiG13) September 10, 2016
Nothing pretty but it’s hardly ever been convincing against Soton, so struggle was expected. Giroud forced the chance, Santi took it. #AFC

2 shots 2 goals. That’s 100% marksmanship quality. 😂 #Arsenal

Thank you thank you. We finally get some luck. A win is a win #Arsenal

Don’t tell me #Arsenal were “lucky.” Stokehampton should’ve had enough accumulated cards to be down to nine players. (I won’t say “men.”)

So glad we carried on with the game whilst Long was faffing about rolling around up the other end. Needs to happen all the time #Arsenal
