Melbourne City FC have announced that striker Harry Novillo has been banned for the next two A-League matches in light of recent controversy.

Novillo was arrested at his home in the early hours of Tuesday morning, following an alleged domestic dispute with his 23-year-old girlfriend.

While the incident did not result in any criminal charges being laid by police, an internal investigation conducted by Melbourne City concluded that “a significant breach of the requirements set out in the FFA National Code of Conduct” had occurred.

The club has therefore given Novillo the maximum penalty possible for his off-field actions and also his absence from a training session.

This involves a two-match ban which will see the 24-year-old miss clashes with the Central Coast Mariners and the Wellington Phoenix, while also being fined 50% of a week’s wage.

Novillo has scored 11 goals in 22 appearances since moving to Melbourne City.
