Adelaide United boss Guillermo Amor admitted his relief at securing the three points after an uninspiring 1-0 victory over Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

Marcelo Carrusca’s first-half goal proved the difference and in the process,  kept the visitors scoreless in their previous five meetings.

Although the Reds were not at their fluent best, Amor was satisfied with the team’s effort and dismissed suggestions the Reds dropped to their opponent’s level.

“The result is good, when you win it’s very good,” Amor said in the post-match press conference.

“When the game is difficult it is important to win these games.”

Amor also reserved praise for Newcastle’s disciplined performance after a strong defensive display which largely limited Adelaide to speculative attempts.

“Newcastle came here to win the game, the first half they played very well and I think we played with the importance of the result,” Amor continued.

The Barcelona legend said it is “very difficult” to prolong United’s undefeated run, but claimed it is part of football.

“When you win and win and play well to maintain this is very difficult it is [even] very difficult for the big teams in the world [to continue winning].”

Adelaide have a short turnaround before hosting Sydney FC on Friday night in a clash which could see them overtake the Sky Blues in the league standings with a win.
