Struggling Newcastle Jets have announced the acquisition of former Denmark international Morten Nordstrand this morning.

Nordstrand, 32, joins the Jets having last plied his tried for Aarhus in his homeland, where he has spent the majority of his playing career with the likes of FC Copenhagen and FC Nordsjaelland.

He also boasts UEFA Champions League experience as well as being the subject of the highest ever transfer fee paid between two Danish clubs, AU$3 million.

A striker by trade, the Jets will hope the eight-time Denmark international can bring some desperately needed firepower to the Hunter Stadium when he links up with his new team mates on Friday.

Coach Scott Miller says Nordstrand will add a killer instinct in the final third as well as a strong personality in the dressing room.

“Morten adds experience and quality to our final third,” Miller said.

“He possesses football intelligence and a striker’s instinct.

“Our recruitment process has highlighted how professional, driven and committed Morten is, and given his background we believe that he will add to the club culturally too.

“I discussed Morten with a range of my contacts in Europe and each gave a glowing report regarding not only his ability, but also his character.”

Norstrand himself says the option of leaving Denmark and exploring new opportunities presented an enticing challenge for him.

“I have played in Denmark for many years and wanted to try something else. I am really excited to be here, meet all the guys, get to know them and start training and playing,” Nordstrand said.

“I am either a nine or a 10. I move a lot when I play.

“I like to find space between the lines, go in the box, score goals or create chances for my team mates.”

Somewhat ironically, Nordstrand’s maiden Jets appearance could come against fellow Dane Thomas Sorensen and his Melbourne City side, pending international clearance.
