England snatched a late 2-1 victory against a determined Wales in Lens thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge.

Daniel Sturridge (England) – The Liverpool striker was one of Roy Hodgson’s half time substitutions, which in hindsight, won the Three Lions the match after being tactically usurped in the opening 45. Sturridge provided plenty of energy and directness in the second half along with Jamie Vardy, and ultimately, it was he who broke Welsh hearts in the 92nd minute. In addition, it was Sturridge’s cross that drew the error from Ashley Williams that opened the door for Vardy.

Adam Lallana (England) – Lasted 73 minutes and put in a good shift on England’s right-hand side of attack. The Liverpudlian looked England’s most likely early doors, often finding the ball in dangerous areas and drawing fouls. Not able to muster up any noteworthy goalscoring opportunities, but the former Southampton skipper provided the outlet fellow winger Raheem Sterling was not able to. Prior to his substitution, Lallana continued to be a threat after Jamie Vardy found the illusive equaliser.

Aaron Ramsey (Wales) – The Arsenal midfielder was a central figure in Wales’ gallant effort against their geographical neighbours, leading from the front and dishing up a dogged performance, giving the England defence something to think about. A constant as Chris Coleman’s men pushed for what would have been a hard-earned result.
