After taking the reins as Albania coach, Gianni De Biasi has lead the national side to their first European Championship finals appearance.

Tactical setup

The Italian has introduced a way of playing in a defensive style that seems to really work well for Albania in getting them to the final stage of Euro 2016. He, along with his captain Lorik Cana, were able to bring back some players into the national fray that had previously refused to play for their country. He is described as being gifted at motivating the troops and a great organiser, which was evident in the tense games against Serbia.

He sets up his team in the best way possible to find a balance between imagination and discipline and enabling his players to continually play in the system so that it becomes second nature.

The area of focus for De Biasi seems to be in having a hard working midfield, which is a major component in setting up a disciplined defence

The one issue that could come from this is that if they find themselves trailing late, they might struggle to get on the front-foot after setting up defensively all game.

Previous Employment

The major success that De Biasi has had is steering Italian clubs away from relegation. He did help Torino pick up the pieces after going bankrupt in the early 2000s, leading them back to the Serie A in his first campaign only to be replaced before the start of the next season.

After that he moved to Levante and won plaudits despite being relegated, before moving back to Torino and saving them from the drop before taking over charge of Albania in 2011.

The team has found much success under the Italian coach, mainly because of his man management skills. De Biasi has been able to win back the support of formerly disgruntled players and then lead them to their first major tournament.
