Most important is the taking of chances.
West Ham had taken three shots by half time, and had scored two goals. Taking chances is always important, but for counter-attacking teams – of which West Ham is a fine example – it’s even more critical to convert with accuracy and confidence. Victor Moses’s opening goal was evidence of the brief Bilic has given his side; to shoot, but shoot well, even if only the faintest sniff of a goal is there. So far – and this is down to the players – the shot choices have been exemplary. West Ham have taken the third-fewest shots so far in the league, and yet have scored the most goals. It really is an astonishing statistic. This sort of cut-throat accuracy was not present last season, and so must be the by-product of life under Bilic.
