Defending champions Chelsea’s horror start to the season continued with a 1-3 loss at Stamford Bridge to a Southampton side led by a superb Graziano Pellè.

Going into the game sitting in 14th with two wins, two draws and three losses from their opening seven games, things did not look good for the London side. They started the game brightly however, with a pinpoint ball from Willian sneaking past Maarten Stekelenburg in the 10th minute. How deliberate the Brazilian’s attempt from 30 yards was is unclear but it beat everyone to clip the inside of the post to open the scoring.

The visitors were undeterred and stuck to their task coming away with the three points thanks largely to Pellè who scored the game-sealing third goal and assisted Steven Davis and Sadio Mané for the first and second goals respectively. The win now means three in three for the Saints with a total of 12 goals scored pushing them into the top half of the table.
