If the Express is to be believed, the Reds are also readying to go against Arsenal with a club record £40 million bid for Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Preparing for another battle against the drop, Sam Allardyce made the first move to strengthen his Sunderland squad overnight, completing a £750,000 deal for Bayern Munich central-defender Jan Kirchhoff. Capturing attention in the Bundesliga since a young age, the Guardian states a lack of game time at Bayern led to a desire for Kirchhoff to experience the Premier League.

A transfer-triangle between Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United continues to heat up and two key players are caught in the middle. According to the Daily Star, Eden Hazard is now a target of Louis van Gaal, after hopes of bringing Gareth Bale to Old Trafford were squashed. The Belgian playmaker is also believed to be a target of Zinedine Zidane, while Chelsea are also said to have Bale in their sights. What could be better than a bidding war for two of the best playmakers in the game?

There is no wasting time when Roman Abramovich’s finances are concerned though. Goal.com believes that the Blues see Hazard’s departure as inevitable by the summer at the latest and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, of bitter rivals Arsenal, has been identified as the man to fill the void which will no doubt be left.

The reigning Premier League champions may also be looking to get rid of some dead-weight, with the Telegraph reporting that Radamel Falcao’s loan spell at Stamford Bridge is nearing an end. Falcao has spent time back at Monaco during the past few days to have a thigh injury assessed before being welcomed back to his parent club, after scoring just seven times combined at Chelsea and Manchester United the season prior.

After lighting the English top-flight on fire with 14 goals in 19 appearances, it is no surprise that Odion Ighalo is rumoured to be sparking interest from big names across Europe. Sky Sports says that Ighalo does not think much of potential moves to Atletico Madrid or AS Roma, but would not be able to turn down an offer to play for Manchester United, who are in dire need of a striker that can consistently hit the net.

Speaking of clubs who need a new striker, the Daily Mail is reporting that Arsenal have officially made a £44.6 million offer for Borussia Dortmund star Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Gunners fans should not be too hopeful at this stage though, with the Bundesliga giants likely to be looking for a deal more in the regions of £60 million.

Only just beginning to hit their full potential, a vital member of Mark Hughes’ Stoke side is keeping those around the Britannia on their toes. According to ESPN FC, Marko Arnautovic has interest coming from Paris Saint-Germain and is stalling talks about a contract extension with the Potters.

And finally, BBC reports that Coventry City have turned the loan of Premier League stalwart Joe Cole into a permanent deal with Aston Villa until the end of 2015-16. The 34-year-old midfielder made over 180 appearances for Chelsea and also played at West Ham and Liverpool.
