Southampton
Fraser Forster – 6.5: Made a judgement error when trying to tackle Son before he rounded the keeper to score, but made several good stops.
Cuco Martina – 6.5: Spurs had far more shots on goal, and the only two Saints did have were Davis’ goals. The defence did well and Martina was a part of that, but not on every occasion.
Virgil van Dijk – 8.5: Tried hard to stop Son’s goal after Forster’s mistake, but could do little. Other than that had an extremely good game at the back to keep Tottenham quiet.
Jose Fonte – 6.5: Another professional outing from Fonte. Overshadowed by a near man of the match performance from his central-defensive partner.
Ryan Bertrand – 7: Did well to mimic the outgoing behaviour of Tottenham’s left and right-backs by going forward on many occasions.
Victor Wanyama – 7: Made several key challenges in the middle, making that area his in the absence of Spurs’ key midfielder.
Jordy Clasie – 6: Southampton had around 30% of the possession so did not see much of the ball, but was tasked with breaking up the play and stuck to his guns.
Oriol Romeu – 6: Suffered a blow to head courtesy of Rose, which required bandaging up.
Sadio Mane – 6: Had a scary moment where he was clattered by a Spurs player following a challenge, but was eventually subbed for Graziano Pelle, so sat most of the second half out.
Steven Davis – 9: Doubled his goal tally for the season in one game by first pulling Saints level, and then putting them in front with under 20 minutes to go. Man of the match.
Dusan Tadic – 7.5: Had an early effort sliced across goal after Ryan Bertrand played well to get the ball to Tadic. Involved in most of Southampton’s recent goals, including Steven Davis’.
Shane Long – 6.5: Was unfairly booked for taking out Lloris. It looked nasty but was mostly trying to get out of the way as he was travelling at pace. Constantly made himself known to the Spurs defence, firing a number of warning shots but without hitting the target.
Substitutions
Graziano Pelle – 6: Came on for Sadio Mane.
