Despite Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea early this morning, observers would still count David Luiz’ first appearance back in blue as a success.

A goal for Dejan Lovren, plus Jordan Henderson’s wonder strike all in the first half saw Jurgen Klopp’s men leave London with maximum rewards.

However, while one Chelsea defender was blasted after the game, positive signs were shown by the returning Luiz, whose stats top the team in the majority of key areas.

The defender saw more individual possession than any of his teammates, distributing the ball with his usual smooth and pinpoint touch – completing the most passes in the Chelsea side with 72.

He also lead the Blues’ defensive stats in terms of clearances and gained possessions, while registering the third-highest number of tackles.

The Brazilian was an equal force at the other end of the pitch though, with his three attempts at goal more than any that Chelsea’s attackers recorded.

Is Luiz the man that Antonio Conte needs to stabilise a shaky defensive line with Arsenal awaiting next weekend?
