Chelsea are still looking to further deepen their defensive stocks despite the return of Brazilian defender David Luiz to the club in the recent transfer window.

Reports from the Mirror claim that Antonio Conte is lining up a move for Lazio’s Stefan De Vrij in order to bolster Chelsea’s ageing defence.

The Blues remain interested in the player despite the fact that Lazio are insisting they are not willing to let the Holland international leave for England.

In order to do so, Lazio are looking to extend the 24-year-old’s current contract which is set to expire at the end of next season.

The report claims that the Premier League giants believe an offer of around £15 million would be enough into tempting Lazio into a sale.

Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, as the Blues look to build towards the future.

In other news concerning Chelsea’s defensive stocks, Kurt Zouma is reportedly progressing well in his return from a long-term knee injury layoff.
