Burnley sign midfielder Steven Defour for club-record fee

Burnley have announced the signing of Belgium international Steven Defour from RSC Anderlecht for £7.5million, a club-record fee.

The 28-year-old signs with the Clarets on a three-year deal, and becomes the club’s fourth summer signing.

The former FC Porto and Standard Liege midfielder adds valuable international experience to the Premier League newcomers having been capped 46 times by his country, and being a part of four league title wins in Portugal and Belgium.

Defour will immediately be ready for action this weekend having featured four times this season for Anderlecht in League and Champions League competition, registering one goal and assist.

The K.R.C Genk youth product is excited by the new challenge that the Premier League is set to present to him.

Manager Sean Dyche praised his new signing, saying: “Steven is new to the Premier League but has a real thirst and desire to be successful in this campaign.”

The Belgian has been handed the number 16 shirt by the Clarets, and is a chance to make his debut when Burnley welcome Liverpool to Turf Moor this weekend.
