Chicharito the hero
The Mexican international proved vital for his new side in a match that had much significance for Leverkusen following a string of three consecutive league defeats.
Throughout the duration of his 69-minute display, the ex-Manchester United forward consistently made runs in a bid to create options for his team-mates, something different to what Kiessling offers. Hernandez was bursting with energy.
Chicharito scored the winning goal in the 69th minute with a wonderful finish. The 27-year-old collected the ball in midfield, controlling it exceptionally well before dancing past opposition players to find space just outside the 18-yard box. He then struck the ball nicely, taking a slight deflection off Turkish international Calhanoglu.
It was the Mexican’s first Bundesliga goal and it could not have arrived at a better moment. The goal ended a Leverkusen drought that lasted nearly five league matches.
