Tony Walmsley and Central Coast Mariners have parted ways, the club confirmed this afternoon.

The news comes after last week’s shock FFA Cup loss to Green Gully, with the club now set with the task of finding a replacement less than two months out from the A-League season.

The Mariners slumped to a 10th placed finish in the 2015/16 season, only winning three games of a possible 27, eventually finishing 28 points adrift of finals football.

Walmsley’s attacking style rarely paid dividends for the Gosford-based club, even with the acquisition of former Liverpool legend Luis Garcia midway through the campaign.

The Central Coast Mariners will commence the recruitment process for its new Head Coach immediately and will advise its members, fans and the media when a successful candidate has been assigned.

The 50-year-old remains content with his contribution to the club, speaking to club media today.

“It’s time for me to move on to explore a number of opportunities,” Walmsley said.

“I’m happy with my contribution to the club over a number of years.

“Last year was particularly tough and I sacrificed a lot, but I’m confident the work undertaken will bear fruit.”
