Xhaka needs to tone down

There was a moment in the match when the Gladbach captain and renowned hothead stood inf ront of the linesman, angrily confronting him over a call that the Swiss took displeasure at. However, the ball was still in play and his actions essentially saw his team a man down. Even when the ball was in the corner, near Xhaka he did not finish, still berating the official until he was needed to defend the subsequent corner. While his passion is not to be scoffed at, Xhaka treads a fine line and at times like this, he crosses it. As captain, he needs to set an example on a stage as big as this, and he was lucky to escape a card.

Gladbach with eye on third

Ahead of a final group game against Manchester City, Andre Schubert’s side are in prime position to steal the third group spot and transfer over to the Europa League knockout round, however, first they must focus on facing Hoffenheim in the league this weekend. Schubert will await results of Ibrahima Traore’s early substitution, with the winger reaching for his hamstring early.

For Sevilla, this is a downer of a result, with a poor campaign coming back to bite them, and with Valencia waiting in the league this week and a clash with Juventus to round out their European campaign, the next few weeks could be a mixed bag.
