The World Cup winner’s future with the Red Devils looks almost certain to be over, with manager José Mourinho reportedly ordering the experienced midfielder to clear his locker and train with the club’s Reserve side on his birthday.
The 32-year-old endured an injury hit campaign under Louis van Gaal last time out following his €9 million move from Bayern Munich, with many left underwhelmed by the midfielder’s lack of impact in the Premier League.
Mourinho seems to have seen enough of the World Cup winner to have decided his fate, and eight others are set to follow Schweinsteiger out the exit door at Old Trafford.
The German, who scored one league goal for the side last year, had not started a Premier League game for the Red Devils since January, and both Milan sides are rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.
Here is how the fans reacted to the news of the 32-year-old’s brutal treatment:
no respect

So sad to Schweinsteiger is not in Mourinho’s plan. Didn’t want him to leave though. Was so excited when he joined us last year. @ManUtd

Unlucky for Schweinsteiger. But with injuries and age, I can see why Jose wants to sell. Brilliant player in his day. We got him too late

Will never ever understand the decision to keep Fellaini and let go of Schweinsteiger. Utter blasphemy
— DavidDeGea (@MouDontMata) August 2, 2016
Schweinsteiger is clearly past his peak, and physically finished as a top level footballer. Wouldn’t mind if he was sold.
