Arsenal bounced back from what had been a testing week with a blistering performance against a lacklustre Manchester United side on Sunday.

Alexis Sanchez scored twice as Arsenal raced out to a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes and never looked back.

Electric Arsenal dazzle

Arsenal flew out of the blocks in this game, eager to put their midweek disappointment in the Champions League behind them. Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring after just five minutes with a glorious flick following a perfect pass from Mesut Ozil. The creator then turned scorer as Ozil added the Gunners’ second less than 75 seconds after the first. Sanchez capped off the rout with a top corner thunderbolt after 19 minutes.

The reality is Arsenal could have been many more ahead. They outplayed Manchester United from start to finish in all areas of the game. Their speed of passing and movement going forward was too much for the United defence to handle.

Their pressure on the ball gave United’s midfielders no time to acclimatise and settle into the game. Two-nil ahead after less than 10 minutes and when Sanchez added his second and Arsenal’s third, the result was virtually secured.

This was a complete performance from an Arsenal team that looked every bit up for the fight, in contrast to their one-time arch enemies. The Gunners played like a team on a mission. Sanchez and Ozil were too much to handle as they tore through the United defence with ease, exposing the sluggish reactions and pace of each member of United’s back four. Matteo Darmian had a particularly torrid day at right-back and was replaced at half time.

If fans needed further proof of the kind of mesmerising football Wenger’s teams are capable of producing then they need not look much further than this prime example.
