Adelaide United have announced the re-signing of young defender Jordan Elsey, who has a greed a one-year extension with the Reds.

The South Australian local has enjoyed an excellent season after returning from a lengthy injury, making 13 appearances in the A-League and establishing himself in the heart of defence alongside Dylan McGowan.

Twenty-one-year-old Elsey says remaining with United will continue to aid his development.

“I feel playing here at Adelaide United is the best for my development and I’m really excited to have signed an extension to my deal,” the defender said.

“I want to have a big season next season and being and Adelaide boy, I’m happy to keep playing for the club that I love.

“After having a good season so far, I want to continue that and then establish myself as a more senior player in our squad.

“The club has shown a lot of faith in me, after re-signing me while I was still injured last season, and I’m here to repay that and show the type of player I am.”

Adelaide boss Guillermo Amor, who showed faith in Elsey after mainstay Osama Malik was felled with injury, praised the youngster’s maturity and football smarts.

“Jordan is a very good player and a very strong defender,” Amor said.

“His reading of the game is good and he is very mature for his age, for in his position he needs to be.

“We are very happy to have re-signed Jordan for one more year and hope he can continue to grow as a footballer in our team.

“Being from South Australia, he is a very good example to many young footballers and I am sure he will finish this season of well and play an important part in our next season.”
