The great Sky Blue wall is no more
The slump is real, not because of their inefficiency in front of goal in recent weeks, not because of the injury list or number of unavailable players and not because of an overbearing schedule. The Sydney slump exists because their defence that was so staunch earlier in the season and had the second best record in the competition has conceded seven goals in the past three matches. Something unheard of for Graham Arnold’s side in the last calendar year. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier – with the Sydney Derby, the Melbourne double and the start of the Asian Champions League in the coming month, Sydney fans will be praying they can re-discover that defensive resolve that made them such a force in the first half of the season.
